It is to our credit that Rushton have valued in excess of 30 whisky distilleries in Scotland, Ireland and Canada. When considering that there are very few in the world, we value a high proportion of the market.
Recently, there has been furious activity in the drinks industry involving mergers and takeovers. The largest of these acquisitions was a large Indian company who bought out a major Scottish label. Consequently this has been the reason for many of our recent plant and machinery valuations.
Our clients span from the most northerly whisky distillery in the world on Orkney to a remote Canadian distillery on the shores of Lake Winnipeg for owners of the Guinness brand, Diageo.
We have also valued the world’s oldest whiskey distillery (note the Irish spelling) in Kilbeggan, 60 miles west of Dublin, where David Steeden and I paid a visit two years ago.
Fortunately for Rushton, I’m not a hardened whiskey, or indeed whisky, drinker. I’ve sampled a few but it’s not something I’ve got a taste for.
